Welcome to the UKZN Plant Breeding MSc Program for Africa

 In February 2015 a new MSc programme in "Cultivar Development for Africa" was launched at the School of Agricultural, Earth and Environmental Sciences (SAEES), at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN).10 Top students from 5 African countries were chosen to be the first to enroll in this exciting new project. This website will tell you all about the project, progress, and basically everything the students have been involved with.

IMCDA Second Joint Partners Meeting Held in Durban

The Improved Masters in Cultivar Development for Africa (IMCDA) programme, funded by the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) with funding received from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), held its fourth Joint Partners Meeting in Durban from the 11th-13th of July to bring together all those involved in the programme to review the progress in the implementation of the programme. Dr Julia Sibiya replaces Prof John Derera as Project Manager of the MSc Project

Dr Sibiya recently took over the reins from Prof Derera as Project Manager of the MSc Project. Professor John Derera spent his last day at UKZN on the 26th of June 2015 as he prepared to make the move back to his home country of Zimbabwe to join Seed Co Limited in the prestigious position of Head of Research and Development.

  On the 1st of September 2015 the students had the opportunity to visit the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board and the famous Ushaka Marine World in Durban.
